WHAT IS MEDITATION

Meditation became popular in the west through the New Age Movement, a very loose and sometimes unrelated collection of religious and spiritual groups and practices, that began back in the late 1800's but really began to blossom in the counter culture of  the late 60's and in the 70s and 80's, especially in the States.

Meditation is the art of contemplation and  a method of communion with the higher self. It is a way to stop the idle chatter of the mind, to still ones being and go deep into an inner world, some would say to connect with higher evolved beings or others just a simple art of relaxation.

Originally from religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, but not exclusively, meditation is now popular all over the world and is used for a variety of reasons, from religious, to therapeutic and well being.
